Project Update: “Hackles” by Jeff Clulow

Australian author Jeff Clulow’s “Hackles” is unexpectedly delightful… if you’re into horror stories:

A young couple from Germany travels through Austria towards the border between Lower Austria and the Czech Republic. Now that they have a child, Rudi and Gelda are seeking the remains of the most ancient forest in Europe where Gelda can trace the origin of her family line.

When their car breaks down, however, their journey takes an unexpected turn… And Rudi finds his love for Gelda challenged to the limits of his mental capacity.

Finalist of the 2024 Aurealis Award for Best Horror Short Story, “Hackles” is a succinct and subtle tale – the sort that, once you have reached the end, you cannot help but want to go back to search for the clues.

The sort, indeed, that we cannot wait to translate and introduce to all the Chinese readers out there.
