Very happy that my reserved copy of Treasure & Dirt arrived from our local library. This gives me some time to get a sense of Australian author Chris Hammer’s writing style, before attending the 2026 Dandenong Ranges Literary Festival‘s program launch on August 27. (@dandyrangeslitfest)
Hammer will be the festival’s keynote speaker on October 9. He will then be part of a crime fiction panel on October 10, where he will be discussing his latest novel Full Circle (forthcoming September 2026).
The TV adaptation of Treasure & Dirt was recently shown on ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) and described by The Guardian as “a gloriously strange detective mystery, unlike any you’ve seen before”. I deliberately avoided watching the TV series, because I want to read the book first, and because I know I can watch it later via ABC iView.
it would be interesting to find out how the UK audience responds to the TV series, which will be renamed “Opal Country” via BBC One over there.
