Reading about Shin Buddhism or “True Pure Land Buddhism”, the most widely practiced branch of Buddhism in Japan.
Can’t say I understand much about what I read. But, as usual, it is the words that draw my attention, which are beautiful themselves. The meaning comes afterwards, conveyed by the symbols and in turn breathing life into them. Like journeyimg along a path and gazing back at its charm.
I guess this is why calligraphy is an art — you encounter the beautiful imagery first, before discerning the written words and their wisdom.
Here are some of the things I learned today:
“Sadness, suffering, worries, pain. All add flavour to the taste of life.”
“To think you know it all – that’s a sure sign you know nothing at all. To think you know nothing at all – that’s a sure sign what you know has deepened.”
“What does it mean to be saved? To be given a place where you could devote yourself heart and soul to your life’s purpose.”
“Encounters make us grow, partings make our lives deep.”
“All I am is the sum of my links to life.”
