The David Ash series (“Warm Winter Read” Day 89)

Reading James Herbert’s The Ghosts of Sleath ebook (1994). He reads like one of those authors who really take their time writing – there is no rush in the plot, and the character development process goes on however long it needs to achieve the desired effect. I imagine a lot of contemporary readers will find this tiresome. After all, we are products of the Internet age where everything is delivered almost instantly.

Then it occurred to me that this is actually the second book in the David Ash series, and what happened in the first book, Haunted (1988), seems to be so important that it profoundly impacted the mindset of the paranormal investigator. Luckily, our local library has the print book and I quickly reserved it. (And, while I was there, some horror titles by John Ajvide Lindqvist brought back a lot of fond memories…)

Meanwhile, the Haunted ebook from Amazon Kindle costs only $1.10. This seems sad, but the second and third ebooks in the series are back to the “normal” price of $9.99. Alas, I can see myself buying Ash (2012) as an ebook…
