Tiny House (Belated Posting “Warm Winter Read” Day 86)

Reading the ABC news story “Women go from homeless to ‘tiny home’ owners with a once-in-a-lifetime deal” by Vanessa Gorman, then watched the corresponding episode on Australian Story in the evening. The story touched my heart, as I have been interested in the tiny house movement for a while now.

There are people out there who are willing to do something, to give back to the community. More importantly, there are people out there who just need a chance, an opportunity to do something to improve their life and build a brighter future. These people don’t want a handout. Instead, they just need a hand up, and they are willing to do honest, hard work for it.

Love these words: “I never saw the smallness… I mean, it’s tiny, but I just saw me and my potential.” Indeed, here’s what I have learned from the tiny house movement: It is not how big or small a place is, but how you organise that space using creativity and innovation. To me, it is like living in a box while thinking outside of it.

I have reserved Bryce Langston’s 2018 book Living Big in a Tiny House at our local library and would recommend it to interested readers.
