Went to the library to pick up some books, but two other titles caught my eye. One is Chinese author Yan Ge’s first English-language collection of short stories, Elsewhere: Stories (2023).
(A quick search reveals how this mesmerising word is favoured by many other authors, including but not limited to Gabrielle Zevin’s Elsewhere [2024], Keanu Reeves and China Miéville’s The Book of Elsewhere [2024, which I started but could not finish], Alexis Schaitkin’s Elsewhere: A Novel [2022], and Dean Koontz’s Elsewhere [2020].)
The other book that “grabbed” me is The Riveter by Canadian author Jack Wang (2025). I am always interested in English-language writings by Australian and other authors with Chinese ancestry, and this one looks like a good read.
Funny. I was just thinking today that I should read more non-fiction in the foreseeable future, and here are two more fiction titles added to my TBR list.
