Finished Australian author Ann Liang’s “I Am Not Jessica Chen” (2025) before the borrowed ebook disappeared into the oblivion.
I have always enjoyed reading YA fiction, and this one is no exception. There are numerous quotable quotes, and I wish I could do a screenshot of every page or have sufficient time and energy to copy everything down on paper.
I should (and will) write a proper review soon. At this stage, I am still trying to figure out why I feel the story is much better than I expected. The keyword here is “feel”, i.e. my emotional response as a reader, which is always worth paying attention to before my rational thoughts kick in as a book reviewer. Any in-depth analysis should come even later.
Interestingly, this reminds me of the following quote from Yung Pueblo: “It’s not about managing your emotions; it’s about managing your reaction to your emotions.”
