BRAINSTORM
Gusts of wind, windows
rattling, banging, shattering
panes of glass, sending
fallen leaves flying.
Searching in vain
for torchlight, a candle
in pitch black, flickering,
howling shadows twirling.
Grasping for hope, collapsing
the wall (and the world?)
to dust, with resistance
remaining futile, doubting
’til the tree limbs free
lancing through the night,
by chance, releasing me
unnerved yet unbound.
