PROGRESS
Bring out your dead
so you can open up
windows and wallets,
walk the summer streets.
Go and toss them off
in parks, morgues and graves,
your lovers, neighbours,
colleagues, customers, clients.
Farewell them as you soar
in freedom and liberty
and economy, an eagle,
your constitutional rights.
Not a backward glance,
mighty heroes with guns
fending off the ghosts
lurking in your lungs.
Bring out your dead
so you can live your lives
painting it great again
using other people’s blood.
